Tips to Prevent Weight Gain at Work

Working on losing some weight but find yourself sitting at a desk from 9am-5pm five days a week? Don’t let the reality of having a job act as an excuse for you to not lose weight- instead, keep these tips in mind to prevent weight gain while working.
Always Eat Breakfast
Eating a healthy breakfast within an hour of waking up has been proven to stabilize your blood sugar which in turn may actually prevent you from overeating while at work. Something as simple as this can really help you as you strive to keep the pounds off that you’ve worked so hard to get rid of. Even though everyone has a hectic schedule, make sure you create time to eat a nutritious breakfast every morning. As it has been said many times before, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and skipping it will have adverse affects on your weight loss goals.

Track your Steps
Look into getting a pedometer to keep track of how much walking you do at work. In an ideal world, you should be walking anywhere from 8,000-10,000 steps per day. That may not be realistic with your job and commute, but by increasing the number of steps you take each day, you will definitely be burning more calories than you were the day before. While you may think you’re chained to your desk constantly, there are simple ways to get up and active during work. For example, instead of taking a call at your desk, get a headset and walk around your office- or even the block- to get some exercise while still being productive at work.
Create a Meal Agenda
Instead of going and eating out like many of your co-workers, bring your own lunch and create a ‘meal agenda’. What does that even mean? Pre-plan and know what you are going to eat before you actually eat it. By doing this you’ll be able to see how calories you are going to consume before you even eat and best of all, it will greatly improve your awareness of what is healthy and what isn’t. This isn’t all about calorie counting; it is just much easier to lose weight when you not only know what you’re eating, but how it’s going to affect you.
Keep these simple tips in mind while at work to potentially shed a few pounds, but more importantly to not gain any unwanted weight.
